Wine of the Week
Alain Jaume Vacqueyras Grande Garrigue
This week at Main Street Market, we’re pouring something truly special: Alain Jaume Vacqueyras Grande Garrigue, a French red that’s rich in flavor, history, and character. And here’s the exciting part—it’s just $8.50 a glass this week only(normally only available by the bottle!).
A Little History
The Jaume family has been making wine in France’s Southern Rhône Valley since the 1820s. Their estate is surrounded by “garrigue”—the wild lavender, rosemary, and thyme that grow naturally on the hillsides. Locals say you can actually taste these herbs in the wine, giving it that signature rustic, earthy character that Rhône wines are famous for.
Vacqueyras itself (pronounced vah-keh-rahss) is a small French village, and its wines are often compared to nearby Châteauneuf-du-Pape—just a bit more approachable in price while still offering the same complexity.
What’s in the Glass
Grande Garrigue is a blend of Grenache, Syrah, Mourvèdre, and Cinsault.
Grenache brings juicy red fruit like strawberries and raspberries.
Syrah adds darker notes—blackberries, spice, and sometimes a little pepper.
Mourvèdre gives depth, structure, and a touch of earthiness.
Cinsault softens everything out with gentle, smooth fruit flavors.
The result? A wine that’s medium to full-bodied (meaning it has some weight, but isn’t heavy) with silky tannins (that slight dryness on your tongue) and a long, satisfying finish.
What the Critics Say (In Plain Language)
Jeb Dunnuck, 93 points: Called it “Provençal,” which basically means it reminds him of the sunny south of France—fragrant herbs, ripe fruit, and a relaxed charm.
Wine Enthusiast, 91 points: Notes juicy cherries and blueberries, balanced by baking spices and fresh acidity (that mouth-watering quality that makes you want another sip).
James Suckling, 91 points: Describes it as spicy and well-structured, saying it will age beautifully but is delicious right now.
Pairing Ideas
This wine is incredibly food-friendly, which makes it perfect for the week ahead:
At Main Street Market this week: Try it with our jalapeño poppers, shrimp and grits, or chicken leg quarters—all dishes we’ll be serving at Apéro and all day Saturday for the Foothills Festival.
Classic pairings: Grilled steaks, lamb chops, or beef stew.
Mediterranean flavors: Ratatouille, roasted veggies, or tomato-based pastas.
Cheese boards: Especially good with manchego, cheddar, or our 18- and 24-month Parmigiano Reggiano.
Casual comfort: Pizza with sausage and mushrooms, or rotisserie chicken with roasted potatoes.
Why We’re Pouring It by the Glass
Normally, wines of this quality are only available by the bottle at the Market—but this week, we wanted to give you the chance to try a glass without committing to the whole bottle. It’s the perfect way to explore a new French red and enjoy it alongside the great food we’ll be serving up all week long.
✨ $8.50 a glass, this week only. Don’t miss it—especially during Apéro and Foothills Festival!
